EXTREME Cold Warning

As we move into a few cold days, the wood fire burns and all is cosy inside the icebound boat.

The frozen surroundings are harsh, but peaceful and serene.

Only the television set reminds us of the even harsher world of the “normal” citizens living their mundane and structured, system dependent lives …..

Taking pictures on a bright winter’s day.

Cold out today but such a bright sunny day, I ventured outside for a few images.
We live just behind Lock 32 of the Trent Severn Waterway, downtown Bobcaygeon, and these images are from our immediate vicinity – I love this place……

Christmas 2013

DSCF3116

A truly Canadian white Christmas is in view from my wheelhouse windows as I write this.

A couple of days ago the region was hit with an ice-storm that crippled cities from Toronto to Kingston and now, three days later there are still 70 thousand homes in Toronto without power.

Our area received about two inches of ice build-up but we have had no major damage to the local infrastructure. A pontoon houseboat (which our neighbor should never have left afloat), was not cleared in time and didn’t fare too well but was saved before major damage was done:

We did a live-stream from a static cam for Christmas Eve at our new “TV” channel and overnight have had 741 unique visits from 4 continents, which was quite thrilling for me:
